Who needs a Visa?
The presentation of the Schengen Visa to enter Portugal is mandatory for any national of the countries listed HERE.
Who is exempt from holding a Visa?
Any national of the countries listed HERE are exempt from holding a Schengen visa to enter Portugal.
Who can request a short-term Schengen Visa?
Any foreigner who is not a national of a Member State of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland can request a Schengen visa for short stay.
Where can you request the Visa?
(1) Online: Through the E-Visa portal
(2) In person, at:
– Portuguese consular offices (Embassies and Consulates)
– Consular representations of European Union countries that have jurisdiction, in case there is no Portuguese consular office.
– External Services Providers, only in some countries.
Third country nationals subject to prior consultation?
Nationalities and categories of citizens mentioned HERE are subject to prior consultation by at least one Member State.
Countries who signed Visa Facilitation Agreements with the EU:
The European Union has concluded visa facilitation agreements to establish simplified visa issuing procedures with the following countries: Albania; Armenia; Azerbaijan; Bosnia and Herzegovina; Belarus; Cape Verde; FYR of Macedonia; Georgia; Moldova; Montenegro; Serbia.
What documents are required?
–Duly filled form and signed;
– Passport Photograph;
– Authentic and Valid (over 3 months after the date of exit) Travel Document; a photocopy of prior passport and visas;
– Certificate of being in a regular situation when the applicant is from a different nationality than that of the country where the visa is being requested;
– Travel reservation (return ticket);
– Travel medical insurance;
– Economic and work conditions: work certificate and salary, as well as three last bank transcripts (proof of means of subsistence), covering the entire stay and return to the country of origin;
– Hotel reservation (if applicable) or statement of responsibility;
– For participation in political, economic, scientific, cultural, sport or religious events, proof of attendance is required, registration or entry ticket;

The Visa does not automatically guarantee entry into Portugal. At the border or any other control point, additional documentation may be requested to prove that you meet the legal requirements to enter the Schengen area.
